| Turn Green Into Gold |
LEED, which stands for Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design, is a green building rating system that is creating a lot of momentum in the commercial and industrial marketplace. Created by the U.S. Green Building Council in 1993 and launched in 1999, LEED has become branded with green buildings and features a platform of rating systems that will eventually cover existing buildings, schools, retail buildings and other types of projects and structures. The rating system functions by earning points for various attributes and involves four levels of certified buildings: Certified, Silver, Gold and Platinum. Thus, the more points you earn, the higher the certification. Listed below are three main benefits to building green.
