How BIG is your carbon footprint? |

| What it means to be "Green" |
It's estimated that commercial and residential buildings in the U.S. consume 65 percent of all electricity, as well as 12 percent of drinkable water and 40 percent of all raw materials (Commission for Environmental Cooperation). The intention of sustainable design or building "green" is to eliminate negative environmental impact completely, through skillful, sensitive design. This negative impact is referred to as our "carbon footprint". A carbon footprint is made up of the sum of 2 parts, primary (turquoise) & secondary (yellow). The primary footprint is a measure of our direct emissions of CO2 from things like transportation or heating your home...we have direct control of these. The secondary footprint measures the indirect CO2 emissions from the whole lifecycle of products we use, from manufacture until breakdown. The more we buy, the more emissions caused on our behalf. Here are just a few ways to help "green" your building
