Two Auburn school year, both on time, both on budget
We interviewed superintendant of Auburn Public Schools Steve Schneider
In his words...
"This is really the first project I've done for Auburn; I've done others as superintendent of other districts. This is the first one that was on time and on budget" "The facility was promised on a date and it was finished, and that's very, very important. I know other districts have to delay school, which patrons don't like, so it's very important. We were able to add new technology. We went wireless with our technology, projectors in the ceilings for computer instruction, it allowed us to offer smaller class sizes, the media center has a computer lab in it, plus it offers space for new instructional material." "Another delivery method would have been, in the end more costly. There are not a lot of change orders in this method, so the staff had input on what they wanted in the buildings and that was what was put in there."
Calvert Elementary -This addition consists of classrooms, a large media center, a gymnasium, bathrooms and storage, all of which are fire sprinkled. The gymnasium features bleachers and basketball goals, 2 of which are retractable.
Junior / Senior High - Equipped with fire sprinklers, this "tilt up construction" addition includes classrooms, bathrooms, home and visitor women's locker rooms, a wrestling room large enough for 2 mats, a large storage room and a stair tower. Included in the summer's construction, was the elevator installed in the cafeteria of the existing building, which aides in meeting the Americans with Disabilities Act standards.
LB889 at work - The board of education specifically voted for the Design-Build option because of its increased likelihood to keep the project on time and within budget, and that's exactly what they got.
Building schools can be cool, especially when it doesn't affect the school year
